Despite the use of religious ideas, this novel has little meaning, and is a quick read that is easily forgotten. It fills a niche in the book market, because the bestseller lists and primetime TV shows demonstrate that people love stories of psychotic killers filled with murder, mayhem and vague allusions to something deep. This is charmless trash fiction that sells

I really enjoy Ted Dekker's writing. For those who claim they don't like it. OH WELL! Their loss not mine. For those who do like it I must ask, being that this is a christian author which on average means that mostly christians are reading it and if you are christian what are we saying to others when we respond unkindly to their feelings, cant we handle our differences responsibly?

For what it's worth, Ted isn't writing this as cheap junk to fill a market niche. The story was inspired by the story of Ted's own daughter, who got herself tangled up in some bad trouble, and of of Ted's own desperation to rescue her. It's Ted's love letter to his daughter.
