Ted Dekker teams with Tosca Lee for new trilogy

Is it possible to write a story that eclipses the scope and impact of The Circle Series? Ted thinks so and he said as much at the Chicago Gathering on Saturday. In fact, he dropped a bombshell to the collective gasp of the 300 people in the room. Not only does he think it's possible, but it's already being written for a Summer 2011 release from Hachette Book Group.

It's entitled Forbidden and it's unlike any Dekker story you've read to date.

For those who weren't there to see the video trailer on Saturday, here is the synopsis:

Four hundred eighty years have passed since civilization's brush with extinction. Perfect order reigns. Humanity's greatest threats have all been silenced. There is no disease, no malice, no hate, no war. There is only peace.

Until the day when one man discovers the truth: Every single soul walking the earth is actually dead. The human heart has been stripped of all that makes it human. Now only he is alive and only he has the knowledge that can once again awaken humanity.

But the way is treacherous and the cost is staggering. For, indeed, in that day life itself is...Forbidden.

But this is going to be different, Ted explained. To pull this story off right would require a unique blend of Dekker style thrills and grit told with masterful prose like he's never delivered before. It would mean going beyond himself in a completely new way. It would mean collaborating with someone as unique and edgy as he is to create something better than he could on his own.

So the search began to find that one writer to elevate this story and make it larger than life. We thought it was an order too big to fill and we almost gave up. Then we found her.

Those at the Gathering met her already, but now we'd like to introduce you because you're going to hear a lot more about the extremely talented Tosca Lee very soon. Trust us.

For those who are unacquainted with her, Tosca is the acclaimed novelist of the groundbreaking (and controversial) books Demon and Havah. She's also working on a novel about Judas...told in first person. If you met her you might think she is the long lost female side of Ted. And you might be right.

She's grit and beauty in one package and has a way of finessing the English language in a way that's best described as lyrical.

Forbidden is the first in the series that will likely become a trilogy. The collaboration process is unlike anything he's done before. It had to be. Ted said that it had to be seamless and feel 100% Dekker or the world would never see it. As a collaborative title, it will be completely different than House, Kiss, or Burn.

More details will be released soon about this exciting venture and you'll be the first to hear about it right here. We haven't seen Ted this consumed with a story since the Circle. And if that's any indication of what's to come we should all get ready for the ride ahead.

Burn by Ted Dekker and Erin Healy coming Jan. 2010

Coming in January 2010 from Thomas Nelson is the second novel in the Dekker/Healy collaboration! They started with Kiss, and now they're bringing us Burn.

Here's a summary:

The past Janeal thought had burned away is rising from the ashes.

Coming in December from Ted Dekker is the first novel he's co-written with Erin Healy. Here's the summary:

Last year a group of about 40 fans took it upon themselves to meet in June to discuss all things Circle and Dekker and dubbed the meeting, The Gathering, after the celebrations in The Circle Trilogy. Although Ted wasn't able to attend, he immediately committed to participating in the 2008 Gathering, should it materialize.

Sinner isn’t so much a sequel to Showdown and Saint, as Showdown is a prequel to Sinner. Honestly, if asked, I would say read Sinner first, and if you’re interested in learning more about how Johnny, Billy, and Darcy came to have their power, go back and read the story of when they were kids.

Sinner takes place in the near future and tells the story of how our country comes to despise those who follow Jesus. Set against this backdrop comes three very gifted individuals. One from the desert and his name is Johnny. One from the city and his name is Billy. One from a small town in Pennsylvania and her name is Darcy. They will forever change the world, and not in the ways readers of Showdown or Saint might expect.

The wait will soon be over, Ted Dekker fans. His next full-length adult novel will be released in 2008. Titled Adam, it sounds like an intriguing one.

Here's Thomas Nelson's summary:

Ted Dekker has revealed his publishing and writing schedule over at his website. He says:

"One nice thing about fiction is that you get to change the world as you go. Part of my world is writing novels and it's no secret that my releases have changed over time. Let me offer an explanation.

I write what moves me. What moves me tends to change with world events, my relationship with my readers in cyberspace, God's imprint on my heart, and a whole host of personal considerations -- boring stuff like what I've had for breakfast, if my cat has died as of late, who won So you Think you can Dance. The lyrics of RED's album by same name. (Excellent album for those who like rock, BTW. Check them out. Awesome God-inspired band on tour with Breaking Benjamin. Go to itunes, search for RED.)

So let met tell you what's come out of this toxic mix.

2007:

2008:

ADAM, a thriller that will have you whispering prayers through the night and thankful once again for the life you have. A mountain top experience in the end, but only after a valley or two have been crossed.

By the end of 2008 the whole Books of History saga will be complete. We'll have the original Circle Trilogy: Black, Red, White. We'll have the middle chapters in Chosen, Infidel, Renegade, and Chaos. And we'll have Project Showdown completed -- Showdown, Saint, and Sinner, which will reveal all things.

A new reader could easily read any one of these three series first and then jump to any one of the other series. But in the end we're talking about 10 novels that all make up one mind bending saga.

In 2009 I return to thrillers like ADAM, which is similar in style to THR3E and in no way ties into the Books of History (like Skin and House did.)

Also look for ALL of the Books of History Novels (Black, Red, White, Chosen, Infidel, Renegade, Chaos, Showdown, Saint, Sinner) to come out as Graphic novels over the next couple years.

Ted Dekker's Chosen is set to release in January 2008, much to his fans' pleasure! Check out the photo of the cover at left, and here's a description:

Summary:

It has been 13 years since Black, and the Forest Guard is slowly being defeated by the Horde. Thomas Hunter is forced to lower the recruiting age from 18 to 16 in order to find enough troops to train for his armies. Of those new recruits, four are chosen to become squad leaders--two boys and two girls--but first they must pass one of Thomas's tests and bring four cacti back to the group.

Nothing goes as expected on their quest, though. They are pursued by the Horde and Johnis, the youngest of the four, sees both Roush and Shatiki--both of which vanished 13 years ago. The Roush give Johnis a new mission: he, along with the other three recruits, must recover the six missing Books of History. Silvie is the only one willing to follow John's lead, though, and rescuing the other two from the trouble they bring upon themselves only delays the quest for the books. The books have the power to bring about unspeakable evil if they fall into the wrong hands.

Ted Dekker's Blink is being reissued in hardcover as Blink of an Eye by Thomas Nelson.

Dekker told TitleTrakk.com in a recent interview: "Blink is coming out as a movie, too, and I’m rewriting the book for the movie. It will be truly different from the original."
